Not all incidents we are called to are serious. This male swan was reported to us as injured with copious amount of blood so a team was despatched. He was caught and examined and the blood is as a result of a broken quill. Swans moult their flight feathers at this time of year and grow new ones which means for a couple of weeks there is blood flow into the quill of the growing feather. If the quill is damaged blood will flow for a while until it clots, this shows up dramatically against the background of white feathers but is not something to be concerned about.
