11th October 2019 – Kingston Upon Thames
Our new oil spill unit is certainly being put to good use. We received a call about a wet looking cygnet sitting on the bank at Kingston and when our team arrived they discovered not only that youngster on the Kingston side of the river but another 8 out of the water on Barge Walk on the Hampton Court side. All waterlogged and cold because they were covered in cooking oil. They were trying to clean their feathers and not having much success. Those 9 swans have been joined by 2 others found later, also contaminated. As the river is fast flowing and full at the moment we think the oil has dispersed and gone downstream but if anyone sees a bedraggled swan out of the water please contact us.
