Diesel Oil dump in Broxbourne

4th November 2021 – River Lea Broxbourne
A major spill of red diesel on the River Lea in Broxbourne resulted in a major rescue operation of the birds there with teams from the Swan Sanctuary and Swan Support being called in to round up the swans. So far we have admitted 18 swans and are expecting more patients today as the rescuing continues. The swans have not surprisingly moved away from the area and so some of them are proving difficult to track down. The Environment Agency and the police are investigating to try and determince the source of the oil. The amount of diesel would suggest this has been come from commercial operation rather than an accidental small spillage. If anyone has any information please contact crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
